STATEMENT: The Claremont Lewis Museum of Art is committed to serve the public in ways that respect the plurality of our communities. Our exhibitions and programs reflect our intention to ensure equity, diversity, inclusion and access to art through meaningful educational and cultural experiences that reach people of all ages, backgrounds, abilities and income groups, strengthening the community by leveraging the interests and talents of our community.
POLICY: The Claremont Lewis Museum of Art’s celebration of our rich artistic legacy is consistent with our commitment to enhance equity, diversity, inclusion and access to art for residents of Claremont and the greater Los Angeles area. With the support of our donors and volunteers we:
- Developed and continue to enhance a robust arts education and appreciation program in the four Title I elementary schools in the Claremont Unified School District, reaching over 2,500 students
- Provide afterschool art-making for all Claremont Unified School District elementary school children
- Support a diverse group of emerging artists and make their art available to the public during the annual Padua Hills Arts Fiesta
- Present three to four exhibitions a year in the historic Claremont Depot, as well as two to three “pop-up” exhibitions at local venues
- Augment the exhibitions with lectures to provide more in-depth understanding of the exhibition artists and their influences
- Host a free family day on the first Sunday of the month at the Depot with art activities for children
- Be a presence at local community events, including free Art Walks, 4th of July festivities, CicLAvia and Village Venture, providing access to the museum and art making opportunities for all ages
- Look to expand our physical space to house additional galleries, to exhibit more art and to become the host to additional community events
