Student images set to appear at El Roble

Claremont, Calif. (February 12, 2015) – ARTpix is the Claremont Museum of Art’s newest after school arts education program for El Roble Intermediate School students designed to foster creative self-expression through photography. The program launched on Tuesday, February 3rd.
Seventh and eighth-grade students receive hands-on training with digital cameras provided by El Roble for this field trip-based, 8-week, “how-to” class. ARTpix students are spending 50-60% of their time outside of the classroom using locations around the Village of Claremont as the creative backdrop for student photography instruction and experimentation. Students are also using the computer lab to print and enhance their photographs.
ARTpix will culminate in a public Art Wall exhibition of student photographs in mid-April 2015. The Art Wall is the 8 ft. by 24 ft. billboard-like structure adjacent to the east side of The Packing House in the West Village. (The current Art Wall exhibition features student cartoons from last year’s ARToon arts education program at El Roble.)
The ARTpix instructor is El Roble art teacher, Wendy Kubiak. Co-creators of the ARTpix program are Ms. Kubiak and CMA board member for arts education programs, Lori Evans Lama.
ARTpix is produced solely by the Claremont Museum of Art (CMA) in partnership with El Roble Intermediate School and funded by generous donations from a CMA member major donor; Gould Asset Management LLC; Claremont Trader Joe’s; Claremont Chamber of Commerce “Best B.E.T.” Grant Program; and online contributions from individuals nationwide.
