Give Arts and Culture to Future Generations
Through Planned Giving
Your Legacy, Our Future
The legacy you leave should reflect what is most important to you. This includes family, friends, and the causes that you support during your lifetime. Claremont Lewis Museum of Art (CLMA) is an independent nonprofit museum celebrating the community’s rich artistic history and promoting the cultural vitality of the region. By including the Museum in your estate plan, you can ensure that our mission will continue to thrive for generations to come.
Why include CLMA in your Estate Plan?
● Create a Lasting Impact: Your gift will support exhibitions, educational programs, collections, and community initiatives, ensuring the Museum remains a vibrant center for art and culture.
● Legacy Society Benefits: Members will enjoy recognition, invitations to special events, and previews of upcoming exhibitions.
Two Easy Ways to Make a Planned Gift
Making a gift provision to CLMA in your estate can be a natural extension of your ongoing support. You might be surprised at how much you can do to help CLMA with a charitable gift while achieving your personal and financial goals.
● Bequest: This is a gift made through your will or revocable living estate. You can leave a specific amount of money, a percentage of your estate, a particular piece of property, or all or a portion of the residue (what’s left after your expenses and debts are paid and specific gifts are distributed to beneficiaries). Sample bequest language can be found below.
If you would like to make a bequest of artwork to be considered for the CLMA’s permanent collection, please let us know. We look forward to speaking to you about how your art can best serve our mission to preserve and highlight Claremont’s rich and diverse art community. (Note: additions to CLMA’s Permanent Collection must be approved by our Acquisitions Committee).
● Beneficiary Designation: Just as you designate individuals to receive certain assets directly as your named beneficiaries, you can name the Claremont Lewis Museum of Art to receive all or a part of the asset. This is most commonly used with IRAs, retirement plan assets, and life insurance policies, but it can also work with checking and savings accounts, brokerage accounts, and commercial annuities.
In addition to leaving a legacy, bequests and beneficiary designations have the advantage of being flexible and are usually revocable. Perhaps most importantly, they leave the assets under your control should you need them during your lifetime. Speak to your financial advisor or attorney about crafting an estate plan that best meets your goals.
Sample Bequest Language
When considering a bequest, we recommend the following language to include in your will or estate plan:
“I give to the Claremont Lewis Museum of Art, a not-for-profit, tax-exempt, corporation having principal place of business at 200 West First Street, Claremont, CA 91711, the sum of $_______ (or _% of my estate) or (describe specific property), Federal Tax Identification Number 56-2482095, to be used for general purposes (or specific purposes) for the Claremont Lewis Museum of Art.”
