The Claremont Lewis Museum of Art Fall Gala “A Decade in the Depot” will celebrate ten years since the Museum moved into the Historic Claremont Depot. Since renovating the vacant Depot in 2016, CLMA has grown into a vibrant cultural anchor for the community—presenting thought-provoking exhibitions, honoring our local cultural heritage, offering educational programs for all ages, and activating a beloved historic space. The gala will celebrate these achievements, honor our supporters, and raise essential funds to sustain and expand our programs and exhibitions for the next decade.
The event will be held on the lawn of the Claremont Depot on Saturday, September 19, 5:30-9:00 p.m. Guests will enjoy wine and hors d’oeuvres on the Depot Plaza while they peruse art and experience auction items, and view the exhibition, Samella! Black as Lacquer and Iron, celebrating the legacy of pioneering artist and art historian Samella Lewis. Dinner al fresco will follow on the lawn catered by Chef Henry of Spaggi’s.
At the Gala live auction, guests may bid on a ceramic Torso by Harrison McIntosh, cast in 2011 from a 1939 mold, painting by James Strombotne, San Francisco condo with private Palmaz Vineyards tasting, Spaggi’s dinner for 6, and an all-inclusive Croatian resort vacation. A paddle auction will benefit Museum education programs, including Project ARTstART celebrating its sixteenth year in the Claremont Unified School District.
Special thanks to Gala Platinum Sponsor Lobello Lamb Lewis & Riley LLP; Gold Sponsors Barbara Brown, Dr. & Mrs Rodrigo Miranda, and Ruth & Joseph C. Reed Foundation for the Arts; and Silver Sponsors Susan Allen, Lotus Construction Group, Inc., Valerie Martinez-Bencomo of VMA Communications, Catherine McIntosh, Dr. Janet Myhre, Sheri Nagel, and Rae Rottman.
