Visit the Claremont Lewis Museum of Art to see the exhibition This is not a chair. on view through April 21 and mark your calendar for these engaging April events.

Maloof It Off the Roof on April 6

The Claremont Lewis Museum of Art will present “Maloof It Off the Roof” for the April Art Walk from 6-7 p.m. on Saturday, April 6. As part of the current exhibition This is not a chair., artists and furniture makers will provide a wide range of “chairs” to be dropped from the roof with musical accompaniment. The performance event is based on tales that as a young furniture maker Sam Maloof would drop his chairs from the roof of his garage to test the strength of their joints. “Maloof It Off the Roof” combines this unorthodox yet practical act with a dose of joyous spectacle and performative destruction to create connections between generations of artists/makers and disciplines.

Jack Rogers Hopkins Film Night on April 11

A new film “Jack Rogers Hopkins: California Design Maverick” will be screened at the Claremont Lewis Museum of Art at 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 11. The 30-minute documentary film about the Modernist sculptor will be shown in the Calaycay Gallery followed by a discussion with Director Katie Nartonis and Jim Rawitsch, executive director of the Sam and Alfreda Maloof Foundation for Arts and Crafts. The free public program is held in conjunction with two concurrent local exhibitions: CLMA’s This is not a chair. in the Claremont Depot and Jack Rogers Hopkins: California Design Maverick in the Jacobs Center of The Maloof Foundation in Alta Loma.

Art Night Out: The Perfect Pair on April 18
